Hypofosfatemische rachitis komt voor bij 1 op de 20.000 tot 1 op de 26.000 mensen3
XLH wordt in een X-gebonden dominant patroon overgedragen. 3

Echter ontstaat 20% tot 30% van de gevallen door spontane mutaties.4,5 Naast de familieanamnese kan het observeren van klinische manifestaties belangrijk zijn bij het vaststellen van XLH.
